The Sky Is Falling…Or Is It?

Posted by Dave

fallingskyI have been silent on this issue long enough.

There is, and has been, so much negative news in the last year … more than the usual “bad news IS the news” routine. Oil prices, stock market, failing banks, companies closing, bailouts, job losses, on and on and on.

While facts are facts and can’t be changed, the perception of them is in our own control … our control, yours and mine. Now, I’m not pollyanna, and I don’t own a pair of rose-colored glasses, but I do believe we have more control of what happens to us than we are led to believe by those in charge and the media.

Countless studies and examples have proven that what we expect to happen affects what actually happens.

One example is the school teacher who is told her new class are trouble makers and are ‘C’ students at best. So she treats them accordingly and lo and behold D’s and C’s are what they get. Compare this to the teacher who refuses to believe her students are ‘bad’, doesn’t write them off, expects good work from them, and gets it.

Is the economy in bad shape? To a degree I guess. I am too young to personally remember the Great Depression, but we are no where close to that. The majority of the people have jobs. Most companies are still making profits [at least those with good business plans]. Overall, there are more pluses than minuses. And it appears to be getting better.

We could speed up this ‘recovery’ if we all would expect or look for growth or positive changes in our and our nation’s situation. Instead of wallowing in the rhetoric of “the sky is falling”. It is so much easier to complain about something than to do something.

Our nation was built by hard-working adventurers and explorers … people who risked it all to have a better life. They were always excited … anxiously looking forward … for what was around the next bend. Those same genes from our forefathers are in each one of us!!

My personal motto for a long time has been “Prepare For The Worst, But Expect The Best”. Feel free to try it on for yourself.

I would like to hear your comments.

… Until the next acorn drops, keep looking up …

  4. Dave Said,

I appreciate the compliment…Sometimes I find it hard to get thoughts onto paper - my fingers just can’t keep up with my mind and I end up missing pieces.
